Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Shanghai on Saturday to protest against the city's worsening pollution problem.

Protesters said the high levels of pollution were enough for the government to drop plans for a lithium battery factory in the city.

Police kept a watchful eye on large groups as they marched along the city's streets.

However, the peaceful march proceeded without any arrests.

The mayor said he would not permit the project to go ahead
