Why the West is more advanced?!
I have seen newspaper pictures and media footage showing members of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) killing dozens of Iraqi citizens who had their hands tied behind their backs, by shooting them in a brutal way that no human being can ever accept.
It is strange to see people leave their countries and follow those who hurl them into wars that serve self-interests in the name of religion. And after all these horrifying scenes, people among us accuse the West of conspiring against us! Or express surprise on why Western countries are far advanced compared to Arab states despite the fact that our region contains the majority of the world's natural resources.
The difference is very clear. The reason why the West is more advanced than us is because human beings there have value and dignity. The presidents in Western countries constantly change, while the people remain the same. The story is completely the opposite in Arab states – where the president remains the same and the people change.
The Western media respects viewers' intelligence, while some media outlets in the Arab World have lost their conscience.
In the Arab World, some politicians go to Damascus in order to congratulate Syria's pharaoh Bashar Al-Assad for being reelected. What is history going to say about them? Have they not seen barrel bombs falling on top of unarmed civilians? Have they not seen the daily scenes of torture and systematic killing? Why have they not visited Syria's orphans and listened to them how Bashar's army killed their parents in front of their eyes?
We have become part of a barbaric Arab where there is no place for the weak. Survival is for the fittest, as if we live in a jungle. We see a legitimate president elected in Egypt, before he is overthrown in a coup that is supported by political enemies of the Muslim Brotherhood who ask the military to persecute their enemies.
The events in the Arab world and what happened following the Arab Spring revealed the fact that Arab and Islamic countries are the ones that conspire against themselves and their own people, and that the Western presence provides protection to those people from the tyranny of their regimes – all so these people never get their rights or take the route of democracy.
One Arab scholar accuses another of sectarianism, then calls for a sectarian war because that is the only way out. All we do is increase sectarianism more. The first party says that this is a holy war, while the other responds by saying it is a public revolution. And between this and that, thousands of innocent civilians fall victim.
The current events in the Arab World show that the problem with our nations is internal. That is why the West is more advanced than us, because they are a lot more honest than we are.
