Syrian military 'takes' key rebel district in Homs

Syrian government forces have captured a key rebel district in the central city of Homs, state media reported on Monday. The military launched a full-blown offensive on the strategic city one month ago.

Syrian state television reported on Monday that government forces had seized control of a key rebel district in the central city Homs.

The Khaldiyeh district's reported capture comes a month after Syrian troops launched an all-out offensive to retake rebel-held areas in what is the country's third largest city. Khaldiyeh has been held by rebels since 2011.

"The armed forces have restored security and stability across the neighbourhood of Khaldiyeh," state television said.

While opposition activists reported major government gains in Khaldiyeh on Monday, they have not confirmed its fall.
