Indonesia Posts $3.31-Billion H1 Trade Deficit
Indonesia's trade balance for June showed a $846.6 million-deficit, bringing the cumulative deficit figure for the first half of the year to $3.31 billion, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said on Thursday.
"Cumulatively, the trade balance deficit is at $3.31 billion because imports [during H1] were at $94.36 billion, much higher than exports at $91.05 billion," BPS head Suryamin said.
Breaking down the data, Suryamin said the deficit in oil and gas trade stood at $5.82 billion in the first six months of 2013, while the non-oil-and-gas sector posted a $2.51 billion surplus.
Trade in crude left a deficit of $1.78 billion, oil products a deficit of $11.6 billion — while gas sales derived a $7.56 billion surplus.
For June, the largest deficit was contributed by the oil and gas sector at $772.6 million while non-oil-and-gas accounted for $74 million in the deficit.
In the first half of the year, the largest trade deficit was with China, at $4.33 billion, followed by Thailand with $2.9 billion.
The largest trade surplus was with India at $4.66 billion, followed by a $3 billion surplus with the United States
