TVRI journalist attacked during Golkar meeting

A journalist for state-owned television station TVRI was assaulted while covering a Golkar Party meeting in a hotel in Pekanbaru on Friday.

A brawl broke out among party members during the meeting, which was attended by party chairman and presidential hopeful Aburizal Bakrie. The journalist, Ade Syaputra, recorded footage of the fight.

"Someone asked me to delete the recording and even tried to take my camera. I told the man no and showed him my press ID," Ade told Antara news agency on Saturday.

Ade said that the man then hit him until he fell to the ground, injuring his arm. He added that he had yet to learn the identity of the assailant.

"I filed a police report right after the incident," he said.

Pekanbaru Police criminal detective division chief, Comr. Arief Fajar Satria, said the police were investigating the case.

"We will study the report and then question witnesses, including the victim," Arief said. (hrl)
