Batik fashion postponed due to Ramadhan
Solo Batik Fashion (SBF) 5, which was initially slated for Friday to Sunday this week has been postponed to August 30 to September 1, 2013 due to schedule conflictions and Ramadhan.
"Tight schedules meant some of the participants withdrew from the event so we choose to postpone it instead," chairman of the SBF 5 organizing committee, Djongko Raharjo, said on Thursday evening.
He was not only referring to events held in Surakarta, or Solo as the city is popularly called, but also in neighboring Yogyakarta city.
One of the events that was considered to have influenced the rescheduling of SBF was the Jogja Fashion Week 2013 held from July 3 – 7.
"This event captured the attention of batik designers and practitioners who are also expected to join SBF 5," Djongko said.
The organizing committee had hoped to attract 60 to 75 designers and batik producers to participate in the event.
Head of Surakarta Municipal Culture and Tourism Agency, Widdy Srihanto, lamented the postponement, but he expressed his full support of the event, expecting it to attract many tourists.
"If we are capable of creating events that are different from the ones organized in other cities then Solo can be a tourist center," said Widdy, expressing the hope that Surakarta would become a city synonymous with fashio
