First graduation of Pakistani doctors in Cuba
Islamabad: Three hundred and eight Pakistani´s students today will receive in Cuba the title of medical doctors, for the first time, after seven years of study of Medicine in the Caribbean Island, which has trained over 23 thousand doctors of 125 countries. The initiative arose after the earthquake of 2005 that affected Pakistan. At that time, more than 2600 Cuban doctors came to Pakistan in order to provide medical assistance in areas of difficult access affected by the disaster.
The work in the field revealed the inadequacies in the health of a region with millions of inhabitants and very few doctors. For these reasons, the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz then offered him to the Pakistani government one thousand scholarships free, for young people of humble origin, that they did not have the possibility to afford the career of Medical Sciences in its own country or abroad.
In 2007, the first group arrived in Havana and in 2008 the second group. All students on arriving in Cuba spent their first year to learn the Spanish language and the six remaining years to the study of medical career, during which counted with a professor's team with a high professional quality.
In the next few days, the Pakistani people will be able to count with 308 new medical graduates in the Caribbean Island, who have the commitment to return to their origin places to work for 5 years and to put its knowledge, acquired in Cuba, at the service of its people.
The graduation ceremony will be held this February 27 at the University Of Medical Sciences Of Villa Clara. This project has become in reality a dream of two nations. The rest of the Pakistanis students will graduate in February 2015, contributing to the strengthening of the bonds of friendship between the peoples of Pakistan and Cuba.
