Indonesia mission boosts staff after woman's death

The Indonesian Consulate resumed work yesterday amid enhanced security in the wake of a stampede that killed one person and injured several others on Sunday.
Thousands of Indonesian workers who gathered in nearby roads leading to the consulate dispersed late Sunday night. Shaikh Muhammad bin Jubair Street and Muallifeen Street in Rehab were strewn with empty water bottles and other trash. The roads were cleaned yesterday and additional police was put in place to restrict the movement of vehicles and visitors.
Special police forces and diplomatic corps were also present in the area for security. Smoke stains are still visible on the walls of the entrance as a result of Sunday's blaze. The Indonesian government has decided to send additional staff to its mission in Jeddah to cope with the rush of workers seeking amnesty.
The consulate will conduct consular tours to different towns in the western and southern provinces following the arrival of additional staff from Jakarta.
The woman who died on Sunday was identified as Marwa Hasan, 57, according to Senior Consul Nur Ibrahim, who called her death a tragedy. He told Arab News that the Indonesian Consulate is scheduled to distribute 5,800 passports to its nationals. He added that the consulate premises can only accommodate 6,000 workers at a time for document collection
