Mothers of protesters join demos by forming human chain in Gezi Park

Istanbul Governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu called today on the mothers of the Gezi Park protesters to come and bring their children home.

So they came, but instead of picking up their children, the mothers joined them in their demonstration. Dozens of mothers held hands and formed a very large human chain to show their support to the protests that have entered their 17th day by standing guard around the park.

Earlier Mutlu had said that no police intervention was foreseen in the next 24 hours despite reports that the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had instructed otherwise. He had also given his own cell phone number during a broadcast by the private NTV channel, calling on the young people at Gezi Park not to hesitate to give him a ring. Mutlu had also said that he intended shortly to visit the park.
