Yudhoyono to Start Official Visit Program in Sweden

TEMPO.CO, Stockholm - President SUsilo Bambang Yudhoyono landed at the Arlanda Airport, on Monday night at 20:45 local time in. He was greeted by the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation, Gunilla Carlsson, along with the Swedish Chief of Protocol, Caroline Vicini; the Indonesian Ambassador to Sweden, Dewa Made Sastrawan; and the Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia, Ewa Polano.

Ambassador Polano said that Yudhoyono's visit is a historical one, the first time an Indonesian President visits Sweden in more than 50 years. The late President Sukarno visited Sweden in May 1959.

"It shows that the Indonesian-Sweden relations have never been stronger and we are now witnessing a large number of cooperation and business agreements being signed by some very important Indonesian and Swedish actors," Ambassador Polano said late last night.

President Yudhoyono and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt are scheduled to hold bilateral deliberations, to follow up on some questions that were discussed during the Prime Minister's visit to Indonesia back in November, including possibilities for enhanced cooperation on healthcare, environment, transportation, innovation, and education.

Afterwards, Yudhoyono and Reinfeldt will attend a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at on sustainable urban development Rosenbad, the Prime Minister's office.

Later, Yudhoyono will go to the Royal Palace where King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will host a luncheon for the President and the First Lady.

The Swedish King visited Indonesia early in 2012 in his capacity as the Honorary Chairman of the World Scout Foundation. The two Heads of State are slated to hold a bilateral talk during the day.

President Yudhoyono is also scheduled to meet with Per Westerberg, Speaker of the Parliament, in the afternoon before attending a dinner where he will be the guest of Prime Minister Reinfeldt. Representatives of some of Sweden's largest companies have also been invited to the dinner.
