PDI-P heading for defeat for in two elections

Candidates fielded by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) could have lost races in two out of three regional elections held in Central Java on Sunday, with another securing the top job in Magelang regency.

According to quick count results, Zaenal Arifin and his running mate won 145,094 votes or 34.45 percent of the vote in Magelang regency, followed by Rohadi Pratoto and Achadi who garnered 132,748 votes (31.41 percent).

In Tegal city, Siti Masitha Soeparno and M Nursholeh from the Golkar Party managed to beat the incumbents by securing 35,006 votes (45.23 percent)based on quick counts.

Incumbents Mayor Ikhmal Jaya and Vice Mayor Edy Suripno, supported by the PDI-P, the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the People's Conscience (Hanura) Party finished second with 39.37 percent of the total vote.

With support from Golkar, the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the United Development Party (PPP), Moh Edi Utomo and his running mate Abasari received 255,260 votes (48 percent), according to quick counts for the top job in Tegal regency. Second was the pair supported by the PKB, the famous wayang kulit master Enthus Susmono and Umi Azizah with 28 percent.
