Philippines in bind over tuna fishing |
Environment group Greenpeace calls for end to "unsustainable fishing methods", threatening fishermen's livelihood.Last Modified: 18 Apr 2013 15:10 |
Greenpeace has called on governments in the Asia Pacific region to stop what it calls "unsustainable fishing methods".
But for many fishermen in the Philippines, fishing - and particularly tuna fishing - is a main source of income and a lucrative industry for the government.
The country has just lifted a two-year fishing ban, but Greenpeace says unsustainable practices have already caused
serious depletion of tuna globally.
Al Jazeera's Jamela Alindogan reports from General Santos.
