PDI-P Politician Airs Doubts on 2014 Elections
The secretary general of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) said on Wednesday that the run-up to the 2014 national elections had shown signs of repeating some of the flaws that affected the 2009 contest.
"There are early indications that the legislative and presidential elections in 2014 will repeat various weaknesses of the 2009 elections," Tjahjo Kumolo said.
One indication, according to Tjahjo, was the hasty preparation of the permanent voter's list. He claimed that the list did not fully accommodate the rights of all citizens to vote.
He also criticized the Rp 5.8 trillion e-KTP project for failing to create fundamental changes to the electoral process.
He emphasized that the General Elections Commission (KPU) must ensure that the recommendations of the General Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) be followed through.
