Grenade Thrown Into Tangerang Businessman's Home
Unidentified assailants threw a grenade through the window of a businessman's house in South Tangerang early Friday morning for reasons that were not immediately clear, police said.
"The witness heard a loud explosion and he then peeked from his window and saw someone wearing a helmet and jacket running from Wilson's house," Jakarta Police Spokesman Sr. Cmr. Rikwanto said.
Businessman Pola Winson, his family and several domestic workers were asleep in the house, in the Taman Sari Bali View complex in the Pisangan sub-district. The residents of the house heard a window break at 3:30 a.m., Rikwanto said. "But then around three minutes later, there was an explosion in the living room that collapsed the lower part of the [house's exterior] door."
The attackers also allegedly fired a gun at a neighboring house, hitting the ventilation system.
The National Police forensics team is conducting an investigation at the scene.
"In the location, the team found a pin that allegedly came from a grenade," said Rikwanto.
Police have yet to determine what type of grenade was used and and have not identified a potential motive.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred on Winson's 45th birthday.
Police are questioning local security officers and neighbors. Pangky Perkasa, whose house was hit by bullets, was awake at the time of the incident, according to police.
"The cluster has only one entrance," he added. "We are still questioning the security guards."
According to witnesses, there were two perpetrators. "One was waiting on a motorcycle and one threw the grenade," Rikwanto said. "What was clear that [the perpetrators] were wearing helmets and dark jackets. After throwing [the grenade], one was running towards the motorcycle and both escaped out of the housing complex."
