Prosecutor Demands Nine Years for Former Sports Ministry Director
Jakarta. Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors demanded a nine-year prison sentence on Tuesday for former Youth and Sports Ministry official Deddy Kusdinar over his role in the Hambalang corruption case.
"We want the judges to declare that Deddy Kusdinar is proven validly and convincingly guilty of corruption," prosecutor Kadek Wiradana said while reading out the indictment at the Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court.
Deddy, the former head of the planning bureau at the ministry, was also told he should expect to pay a Rp 300 million ($25,000) fine — the same amount he was alleged to have received for his role in the graft.
Prosecutors said that Deddy had stolen money from the public purse in a case that antigraft investigators believe cost losses to the state of around Rp 463 billion.
In the previous court hearing in November, 2013, Kadek said former Youth and Sports Minister Andi Alfian Mallarangeng, former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum and officials from companies including construction firms Adhi Karya and Wijaya Karya also bore responsibility for siphoning off money from the botched construction project.
At Tuesday's hearing, Kadek said Deddy as the official who signed the contracts for the corrupt tenders and had been charged under Article 2 of the 1999 Law on Corruption, which carries maximum sentence of 20 years in jail.
The next court hearing will be held on Feb. 25.
