Jakarta. The Lippo Group handed out a second batch of disaster relief to victims of the Mt. Sinabung eruptions in Kabanjahe, North Sumatra, on Thursday.

Through Siloam Hospital — a member of the Lippo Group — ambulances and a medical team were deployed to provide health services and medications to more than 2,000 people in refugee shelters. Many  suffer from eye disease and upper respiratory tract infections from contact with dust from the volcanic eruptions.

The medical team also offered health services and medications for other diseases, including diarrhea and skin ailments.

The first batch of relief goods was delivered to evacuation shelters in Kabanjahe on Dec. 5. That included blankets, clothing, school uniforms, and sanitation equipment.

On Thursday, along with Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring, the Lippo Group handed more blankets, clothing, sanitation equipment and medicine to 9,000 evacuees in the villages of Kabanjahe 1 and Kabanjahe 2, as well as the villages of Jambur Taras and Jambur Lau Guma in Berastagi.

"Hopefully with the help of the medical team from Siloam Hospital, who have been specially appointed to treat upper respiratory tract and eye infections, local residents and evacuees could be relieved of some of their suffering," said Lippo Group director Yuke Susiloputro, who is also leader of the Lippo Group humanitarian team.

The group emphasized that it would continue to do its best to provide humanitarian aid to victims of the disaster, whether directly delivered to the people or through the local government.

Siloam Hospital is one of Lippo Group's business units, which operates up to 17 hospitals across Indonesia with more than 4,000 beds and approximately 5,300 medical staff and doctors.

For the past 17 years, Siloam Hospital has become the largest provider of medical services in Indonesia.
